Profile of Mr. Tsuneo HASEGAWA and HASETSUNE CUP
Mr. Tsuneo HASEGAWA, born in 1947, was one of the top Alpine Climbers, who is well-known for the World’s first winter solo ascent of the “Great North Faces of the Alps” (Matterhorn in 1977, Eiger in 1978, Grandes Jorasses in 1979) and World’s first winter solo ascent of the South Face of Aconcagua in 1981. He lost his life by avalanche while he was climbing Ultar Peak in Pakistan on the 10th of October, 1991.
Mr. Hasegawa belonged to the Tokyo Mountaineering Federation (TMF). To
commemorate his work, TMF began to hold Japan Mountain Endurance Race or “HASETSUNE CUP” exactly one year after his death.
HASETSUNE CUP is now regarded as one of the top trail running races in Japan.

Okutama mountainous area: 71.5km
Itsukaichi Junior High School <Start> →Imakuma Jinja (Imakuma Shrine) → Ichimichi Yama Bunki (Branch point to Mt. Ichimichi: Elevation, 795m) → Daigomaru (867m) → Shoto San (Mt. Shoto: 990m) → Dohyo Dake (Mt. Dohyo: 1005m) → Sasa One → Mito San (Mt. Mito: 1527m) → Gozen Yama (Mt. Gozen, 1405m) → Ohtake San (Mt. Ohtake: 1266m) → Mitake Jinja (Mitake Shrine: 929m) → Hinode Yama (Mt. Hinode: 902m) → Konpira One → Itsukaichi Kaikan <Finish>

*Runners will line up in blocks designated by the organizer and will start with the runners with the highest ITRA index, 2022 and 2023 HASETSUNE CUP race records, and full marathon records.
*Runners of Elite Category will start from the block in the front row.

Entry Qualification
(1)Entrants must be 16 years old or over on Oct. 13, 2024
(Entrants under 18 years old need consent of their parents.)
(2)Entrants are required to be physically fit and to run/walk the course within the time limit.
(3)Entrants need to subscribe to COCOHELI, a membership of helicopter search service.
(4)Entrants of Elite Category need to meet one of the following requirements in addition to the qualification of (1) to (3) above.
<Requirements of Elite Category>
・Winner of the HASETSUNE CUP in the past.
・ITRA Performance Index as of June 2023 as follows.
*For male runners, the index is 550 or higher.
*For female runners, the index is 500 or higher
Record
Race time is recorded by runner’s chips on your shoes. Put your chips to your shoes
properly before the start.
Finishers’ certificate will be issued to finishers on the race day.

【Record by Runner's Chips】
(1) Records will be measured by runner's chips.
(2) Runner's chips will be given with a number card, so please check it at the reception when receiving it. Attach the runner's chips firmly to the laces of your shoes before coming to the start line.
(3) Your time is recorded at check points and finish.
(4) If you do not wear runner's chips or use runner’s chips of another person, you will be disqualified.
(5) Runner's chips cannot be used for other events. Make sure to return chips after you finish the race.
(6) You need to return chips if you do not run after receiving them.
(7) Runners' chips will be collected at the finish area. If you withdraw from the race, take off your chips and return them to a collection spot at the venue.
(8) Runner's chips cannot be reissued. If chips are lost or not returned, the actual cost will be charged.

・Individual Categories: (Male & Female)
-Hasegawa's Cup for the 1st place
-Medals for the 1st to 3rd places
-Award Certificates for the 1st to the 6th places for age categories of 10s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and over 70
-Finisher’s Certificates for all finishers within 24 hours
・Team Categories:
A team is formed by 3 runners. The 6 highest rank teams are awarded.
・Runners who have completed the race 10 times in total are entitled to receive “Adventure Green” title. Those who have completed the race 20 times are entitled to receive “Super Adventure Green” title and a medal.
Qualified runners are requested to contact the Administration Office.
・The oldest and the youngest finisher will receive the Fighting Spirit Award.
Entry Fee
・General Category and Elite Category: JPY 22,000 (tax included) / High school students: JPY 9,000
・Members of the Tokyo Mountaineering Federation and the Japan Trailrunning Association: JPY 20,000
As for the entry through Furusato Nozei donation program, additional payment of JPY30,000 or more is necessary.
Once paid, fee is non-refundable.
*Part of the fee will be contributed for environmental preservation activities in the race areas.
*Former winners of HASETSUNE CUP and runners with “Super Adventure Green” title will be invited.
Capacity
The capacity of runners is 2,000 including entrants through Furusato Nozei donation program.
Cancellation Criteria
The following criteria will be used to decide cancellation of the race.
- When a waring is issued in the weather forecast for the race day.
- When it becomes difficult to manage the race safely due to occurrence of natural disasters, spread of infectious diseases or another emergency.
- When request is issued by administrative body to cancel the race.

<Refund policy of entry fee>
・If the race is cancelled as of 1st of September 2024, 5,000 yen will be returned.
・No refund is made in the following cases.
*The race is cancelled after 2nd of September 2024.
*The race is cancelled due to natural disasters or other emergencies.
・Only when the race is cancelled after the reference date and by the day before the race, a paid entry right of the 33rd HASETSUNE CUP will be granted.
Race Guidelines
Race guidelines will be sent to participants by the end of September, 2024.
Rules & Regulations
(1)The race will be conducted on an individual basis.
(2)This is a chip-timed race. Rankings are determined based on the finish time.
(3)Check points (CPs) are set up with time limits as follows.
・Preliminary check points: Iriyama Toge and Daigomaru
・First check point, Second check point and Third check point
If you cannot pass each CP before the time limit, stop running and follow instructions of the official to go down the mountains.
(4)The start will be arranged in blocks designated by the organizer, and the runner with high ITRA Performance Index, high ranking record of HASETSUNE CUP and marathon record in 2022/2023 will line up near the start line.

(5)After passing the check points within the time limits mentioned above, the finish time will be limited to 24 hours after the start. (13:00 on Oct 14)
(6)Organizer will provide water or sports drink within 1.5 litters only at Tsukiyomiyama Daini Chushajo.
(7)Runners are required to carry COCOHELI device as necessary equipment.
(8)You are strongly recommended to carry at least 2L of water, food, rainwear, torches along with extra batteries, and outfits for cold weather in order to complete the race safely. Lack of equipment or ill equipment condition may cause an accident. You need to figure out what to bring with you.
(9)Runners are not allowed to wear fancy costumes or dress-up.
(10)Water is only available at the following four places;
*Aid station at Tsukiyomi Daini Chushajo: within 1.5L
*Ohtake Sanso (200m from Ohtake Sanso): natural water
*Upper part of Ayahironotaki (1.5km before Mitake San): natural water
*Mitake Jinjya: natural water
(11) You may use trekking poles, but only after passing the first check point (Sengen Toge). You should keep your poles attached to your backpack until you reach the first check point. (You are not allowed to run with your poles in your hand before reaching the first check point.)
(12) Use of personal hearing devices such as headphones and earphones are prohibited.
(13) Course displays (arrows) and red flashing lamps are placed at intersections and branch points.
(14) Conditions for disqualification are;
to throw garbage away
to violate the rules and regulations
to neglect directions made by race staff
to get water at places other than the designated four places above, or get food or support from anyone
to run without the athlete bibs
to miss check points within the time limits or exceed the time limit at finish
to misrepresent the entry data or qualifications
to violate natural preservation
to act unfairly
(15) You need to notify the officials on the course if you drop out of the race due to illness or any other reasons.
Notice
(1) Your participation will be rejected if you are late for the reception.
(2) Please take your trash home with you.
(3) Be sure to take your health insurance card with you on the race day.
(4) The organizer will call off the race in case of bad weather during the race.
(5) First aid will be provided by the organizer in case of accident during the race. Any other responsibilities will not be held by the organizer.
(6) Illegally parked car around the venue will be towed away. Please use public parking lot if coming by car.
(7) The official may stop a runner who is judged not to be able to continue the race.
(8) You need to leave your luggage in the specified area and keep your valuables by yourself. The organizer is not responsible for loss of your belongings.
(9) There are 12 toilets on the course as follows.

Rules in National Parks / Specially Protected Area
A Part of the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park area used for the course is designated as a special protection zone or a special area (class 1 to 3).
In particular, the area around Mr. Mito has been designated as a special protection zone, and is only in Tokyo where a virgin beech forest remains and is rich in nature.
The area is a natural heritage that needs to be preserved for future generations.
In order to protect the nature, “walking section” is set up in specified area on the course.
In the section, overtaking is prohibited and tapes are stretched to avoid running off the course. Runners who go off the course will be disqualified.
Even within the walking section, runners will be allowed to run up to 2 hours and 30 minutes after the top male and female runners respectively have passed the starting point of the walking section. Even in such cases, it is prohibited to go beyond the course regulated by tape or other means.
